Running a catering company wasn’t always part of the plan — but somehow, it’s become my way of weaving together everything I care about: good food, community, the planet, and most importantly, my family.
As a woman and a mum, the juggle is real. School runs, forgotten PE kits, and homework exist alongside markets, last-minute bookings, and prepping food for events that feed hundreds. Some days are a whirlwind. But somehow, the chaos is beautiful — especially when it’s rooted in purpose.
Nature’s Larder: Cornwall’s Gift to the Plate
Living and working in Cornwall is a blessing I don’t take for granted. Our food doesn’t just come off a delivery truck — it’s pulled from the soil, the hedgerows, and the sea.
Right now, wild garlic carpets the lanes. Soon, there’ll be samphire, strawberries, and baby broad beans. From fresh mackerel landed in Newlyn to heritage potatoes grown in the fields down the road, Cornwall feeds us in every way.
I built Earth & Soul Kitchens around this simple truth: food is powerful. It connects us to the land, to each other, and to our own wellbeing. It is to me, love.
When Food Becomes Medicine: Our Family’s Story with PCD
This mission isn’t just professional — it’s deeply personal.
Two of my children have a rare, lifelong lung condition called Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia (PCD). It affects their ability to clear their lungs, which makes them more vulnerable to infections and inflammation. It’s one of those invisible conditions that quietly shapes every part of life — and one of the biggest tools we have to support their health is what goes on their plate.
For us, healthy eating isn’t a trend — it’s a daily act of care and protection. Fresh vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and antioxidant-rich foods help reduce inflammation and support their immune systems. It’s not about restriction — it’s about nourishment, joy, and resilience.
I’ve seen first-hand how real, wholesome food can strengthen a child’s body and spirit. And I want that knowledge to ripple outward into our community, too — because so many families are navigating chronic illness without access to simple, affordable guidance around food.
The Vision: Food That’s Good for People and Planet
Our vision for Earth & Soul Kitchens is to grow — not just in size, but in impact.
We want to show people that sustainable, nourishing food doesn’t have to be expensive or complicated. In fact, some of the most humble ingredients — tinned pulses, seasonal veg, sustainably caught fish — are some of the most nutrient-dense and affordable out there.
Through community workshops, cook-alongs, and shared tables, we want to educate and empower families to eat well — not perfectly, but purposefully. Especially those living with chronic conditions or on tighter budgets.
The Real Life Bit
Running a business while raising a family with complex health needs is far from easy. I’ve cooked for weddings on little sleep, balanced spreadsheets between hospital appointments, zoom meetings from outside theatre and prepped entire events feeling mentally and physically exhausted.
But it’s all worth it. Because my children are growing up surrounded by food that means something — food that heals, that connects, and that sustains. And because I believe that food can be a force for good in the world — starting right here in Cornwall.
This Earth Day, and every day, we’re celebrating the messy, magical journey of building a business with heart. Thanks for being part of it.
With love,
Earth & Soul Kitchens 🌱
